Explore Learning and Smart Cub Learning compared

Tutor-led preparation versus independent practice between lessons.

The practical verdict

Explore Learning is a different kind of purchase: it includes human tutoring. It may suit a child who needs someone to listen, explain and keep a regular appointment. Smart Cub Learning is a home-learning option with lessons, practice and reporting, and can sit alongside a tutor. A cheaper app subscription should not be presented as the same service.

Where Explore Learning may suit you

  • Your child needs regular human teaching and conversation.
  • A centre appointment or live online tutor provides useful structure.
  • You want to investigate the provider's school-focused course and mock schedule.

Where Smart Cub may suit you

  • Your child can work independently with appropriate adult support.
  • You want focused practice between tutor appointments.
  • You need a family learning record without buying another tuition schedule.

Decide where human help is needed

Some difficulties are easier to understand in a conversation: a child may misread a problem, lose confidence or use a method that breaks down halfway through. A tutor can ask follow-up questions and adapt the explanation. If that is the main need, assess the teaching relationship directly.

A platform can provide useful practice between appointments, but it should not be described as the same contact time. Ask what an adult will need to do at home with either option.

Make tutor homework and home practice agree

If your child already has a tutor, share a small topic list and agree the purpose of extra practice. Avoid asking the child to follow two competing weekly plans. One short follow-up on a lesson can be more manageable than several unrelated assignments.

Our screenshots include the tutor roster and assignment views using demonstration data. They show how a tutor can organise work in Smart Cub, not that a family subscription comes with an employed tutor or a guaranteed response service.

Compare value beyond the monthly number

Include session length, group size, location, travel, missed-session rules and the type of feedback an adult receives. Then consider whether the child uses the independent resources between appointments. The right answer depends on the support needed, not a universal price ranking.

Use the cost tool to understand the budget difference, with its service distinction kept visible. If a child needs human help, a software saving does not make that need disappear. A mixed plan may be the most appropriate choice.

Compare the amount you would actually pay

Change the preparation period, learner count and plan. Annual and multi-month commitments are counted in full, even when you intend to use fewer months.

The reviewed 11+ page advertises two weekly group sessions from £190.00 per month. Other session types and centres can have different fees.

Human tuition plus resources. Confirm centre, availability and the actual quote.

Smart Cub costs £1,050.06 less for these selections.

One place per child is assumed. This is a published starting fee, not a binding quote; include travel or any additional charges that apply. Complete billing periods are counted. Family licences are rounded up; unverified discounts are excluded. Price alone does not compare teaching quality or admission chances.

Compare the service as well as the amount

Explore Learning includes human tuition. The cost comparison shows different services; Smart Cub's family subscription does not include the same contact hours, group setting or individual teaching.

Our published Standard subscription price is £14.99 monthly for up to 4 children. Check every Smart Cub plan inclusion before choosing.

Questions about Explore Learning and Smart Cub Learning

Is Smart Cub an equivalent to Explore Learning tuition?

No. It is software for learning and practice. Explore Learning includes human tuition, which has a different scope and cost.

Can a tutor use Smart Cub?

Tutor Studio is a separate plan for setting work and reviewing results. A family subscription alone does not include a tutor's teaching time.

Should we use both a tutor and a platform?

Only if each has a clear job. Agree a manageable routine with the tutor and use evidence from completed work to choose follow-up practice.
