The practical verdict

BOFA deserves a serious look if your main need is finding gaps and checking whether learning survives a delay. Its published test, teach and retest process is a meaningful distinction. Smart Cub Learning is worth trying if your child needs a visible lesson path, a saved explanation and separate learning, revision and progress views. Use the calculator to compare the reviewed BOFA entry plan with our current family price.

Why delayed retesting is worth inspecting

Getting a question right immediately after seeing its answer is different from remembering the method later. BOFA makes that distinction explicit in its product description. During a trial, ask when the retest becomes available and how the subsequent report separates an initial difficulty from a persistent gap.

Smart Cub's completed-work and answer-review screens let a family revisit an attempt. Those records should not be described as the same mechanism as BOFA's scheduled retest. Compare the actual follow-up task rather than the general word adaptive.

How much choice should the learner have?

Some families want the software to schedule the next test with little discussion. Others want a child to see a subject path and understand the next concept. Test this with the person doing the work: can they begin the next useful task without an adult explaining the navigation?

Look at how either product reacts when a question is too hard. A change of difficulty is useful only if it leaves the child with a manageable next step and an explanation they understand.

Price the preparation, including mocks

Start with the number of learners and the months before the exam. Then add any separate mock products you genuinely intend to use. Avoid treating a lower subscription price as a complete test-preparation budget until those purchases are clear.

A family may reasonably prefer BOFA for its retest method even when using another source for a timed paper. Equally, one connected family workspace may be easier to maintain. Choose a coherent routine rather than assuming more subscriptions produce better preparation.

Compare the amount you would actually pay

Change the preparation period, learner count and plan. Annual and multi-month commitments are counted in full, even when you intend to use fewer months.

The reviewed getting-started guide lists £9.50 monthly for one child after a seven-day trial that requires payment details.

One licence per child is a planning assumption. Check multi-child offers and separate mock products; no discount is assumed. Complete billing periods are counted. Family licences are rounded up; unverified discounts are excluded. Price alone does not compare teaching quality or admission chances.

Compare the service as well as the amount

BOFA's separate mock-test products should not be assumed included in an 11+ subscription. Smart Cub does not claim to reproduce BOFA's delayed-retest scheduling.

Our published Standard subscription price is £14.99 monthly for up to 4 children. Check every Smart Cub plan inclusion before choosing.
