Torbay 11 Plus Results 2026: Torquay, Churston and Your Next Steps

Torbay selective-test guidance was scheduled from 13 October 2026. Learn what a Yes or No result means for each grammar school and how Torbay residents apply by 31 October.

If your child took the Torbay selection tests in September 2026, the guidance letter helps you decide which schools to name for September 2027 entry. Torbay Council's timetable says families should be notified from 13 October 2026, or as soon as possible afterwards. If you have not received a letter, contact the school where your child registered rather than guessing the outcome.

The letter is not a school-place offer. Torquay Girls' Grammar School's 2027 policy says the guidance gives a Yes or No indication for each Torbay selective school, not the child's actual score. A child can therefore be eligible for one school and not another. The local authority sends place offers on 1 March 2027.

Which Torbay schools use the test?

Torbay Council says the selective schools share the same test results and a child sits the assessment once. The grammar schools in our directory are:

The Spires College also has a selective stream using the Torbay test. It is a different type of school place, so read its own admissions information if you are considering it. Our Torbay school directory lists the three grammar schools and their shared assessment route.

What does a Yes or No result mean?

A Yes means the child has met that school's academic eligibility standard. It does not reserve a place. The school must still apply its published oversubscription rules if more eligible children apply than it can admit. A No means the guidance does not show eligibility for that school in the normal round. If you think an error or special circumstance affected the test, read the school's policy and contact its admissions team. The deadline for a selection review based on exceptional circumstances may already have passed: the published 2027 policies require requests within 14 days of the test, before the results letter. The separate appeal route is explained below.

Do not use an online pass-mark estimate to reinterpret the guidance. Torquay Girls' Grammar School says successful candidates' scores are not disclosed, and Churston's amended 2027 policy says families receive a Yes or No outcome. Each school applies its own criteria after the shared test.

Churston's 2027 admissions rules changed in October

If you read Churston's earlier 2027 policy, check the current version before choosing your schools. Following the Schools Adjudicator's 6 October 2026 determination, Churston says it has removed priority for pupils from 15 named primary schools and restored sibling priority. After places required by an education, health and care plan naming the school and priority for eligible looked-after and previously looked-after children, its amended policy puts eligible children scoring at least as highly as the 75th ranked applicant ahead of the remaining priority categories. That 75th score comes from applicants who named Churston, regardless of their preference position; it is not a fixed pass mark. The next tier includes eligible children in its free-school-meals, Pupil Premium or Service Pupil Premium category, followed by siblings and staff children. The school's amended policy is linked from its official resources page. Historical offer data and older copies of the policy do not describe the new 2027 ordering.

What should families do before their application deadline?

  1. Read the guidance for each school, then compare each school's current admissions policy and travel arrangements. Eligibility is school-specific even though the test is shared.
  2. Put schools in your genuine order of preference. Torbay Council allows Torbay residents up to three choices and says it offers the highest preference for which a place is available.
  3. Submit the secondary Common Application Form to the council where your child lives. Torbay residents use Torbay's application service by 31 October 2026. Families elsewhere use their home council, even when asking for a Torbay school, and should check that council's deadline. Test registration did not apply for a school place.
  4. Check supplementary forms. Torbay Council says some schools may ask for separate information for a priority category. Send any required form directly to the school by its stated deadline as well as completing the council application.

Save the application confirmation. Torbay Council says on-time applicants receive their allocation on 1 March 2027. If you need to compare your options first, our school application order planner can help you arrange a shortlist, but the official school and council rules decide eligibility and offers.

Torbay 11+ results questions

Does a Yes on the letter guarantee a place?

No. It is guidance about academic eligibility, not an offer. Each school still ranks eligible applicants against its current admissions rules, and offers arrive through the local authority in March 2027.

Can I ask for a review if the guidance says No?

For the September 2026 test, Churston's amended policy, Torquay Boys' policy and Torquay Girls' policy all require exceptional-circumstances review requests within 14 days of the test, before guidance letters are sent. If you did not request a review then, contact the relevant school's admissions team about your circumstances, but do not assume a new review can start after a No result. Torbay Council's selective-school appeals guidance explains the separate right to appeal if your child is later refused a place. A prior local review does not remove that right.

Does my child need to sit separate tests for all three grammar schools?

No. Torbay Council says its selective schools use the same test results, so a child only sits the assessment once. Read the guidance for each school separately because their eligibility and admissions decisions can differ.

Do I apply to Torbay Council if I live in Devon outside Torbay?

No. Apply through the council where your child lives. Torbay Council explicitly tells families outside Torbay to use their home council's application, even when they prefer a Torbay school.
