Kent Test results for children seeking a September 2027 school place were emailed on Thursday 15 October 2026. The result tells you whether your child has been assessed as suitable for a Kent grammar school. It does not reserve a place. The next decision is which schools to name on your secondary school application.
If you live in Kent, that application closes on Monday 2 November 2026. If you live elsewhere, apply through your home local authority and check its deadline. These are school applications, separate from the Kent Test registration you completed before the exam (Kent County Council, secondary school places).
What score qualified in the 2026 Kent Test?
Kent County Council says a grammar school assessment required 345 or more in total, with no individual score below 111. The letter gives an age-standardised score for English, maths and reasoning, plus their aggregate. Each component runs from 69 to 141, so the maximum total is 423 (Kent Test results).
Check both parts of the rule. A total of 350 with one component at 110 does not meet this year's published standard. Equally, three components at 111 total only 333, so meeting each component minimum alone is not enough. Last year's 332 figure is historical and does not apply to this test. Our Kent Test guide explains the papers and how standardisation works.
If the email has not arrived, check the address used when you registered. Kent says results were sent only to that address. Families who did not give an email address were sent a first-class letter and can ask their child's primary school for scores from the day after results day (Kent Test results).
If your child received a grammar school assessment
Start with the schools your family would actually choose. For each one, read its September 2027 admissions policy and note any priority area, distance, sibling, faith or extra-form rule. A qualifying Kent Test result makes your child eligible to be considered, but an oversubscribed school ranks applicants under its own policy. Kent County Council says a grammar school can consider your child only if you name it on your application (apply for a Kent grammar school place).
Kent families can name up to four schools. Put them in your genuine order of preference and use the available choices, including a school you would be happy with if a grammar place is not offered. Naming just one school does not improve your chance there. Kent also publishes an admissions data report showing the criterion and distance of the last child offered a place in previous years. That is useful context, not a prediction for this year's allocation (secondary school places).
Use our school application order planner to put your shortlisted schools in genuine preference order. It does not decide whether you meet an individual school's admission rule.
Check whether a school requires a supplementary information form in addition to the council application. Get it from that school and follow its instructions. Our Kent school and test directory helps you make a shortlist, then the school's own policy should settle the details.
If Dartford or Wilmington is on your shortlist, use our Dartford school comparison and form checklist. The published 2027 policies give 31 October school-form deadlines for qualifying Wilmington Boys and Girls claims, and 1 November for a Dartford Grammar School for Girls Pupil Premium claim. These come before Kent's 2 November council application deadline. The forms have different eligibility rules and do not replace your home council's application.
Considering Mayfield Grammar School, Gravesend? Its 2027 policy accepts girls assessed eligible through either the Kent Test or the school's optional Mayfield procedure, provided they took part in the Kent testing process. If claiming the school's Free School Meals priority within its listed postcode groups, check its 2027 supplementary form, which says it must arrive by 2 November 2026. The policy's Mayfield procedure section narrows its form wording to Kent residents, so a family outside Kent who believes it qualifies should clarify the rule with the school. Every applicant must separately name Mayfield on the home council application. The Mayfield school guide brings the two routes together.
If your child was not assessed as suitable
Do not treat an old pass mark or an online practice percentage as a reason to ignore the result. Read the decision in your child's letter. Your child's primary school can explain how it was reached, but Kent's 2027 admissions guide says the Headteacher Assessment Panel considers referrals before parents receive the decision; neither the school nor council can change the assessment afterwards. The council says an application for a child who was not tested or assessed suitable will ordinarily be refused on National Offer Day, after which you can appeal the refused school place rather than the test result. Mayfield's optional procedure is a school-specific exception: a girl who took the Kent Test but did not meet its grammar standard can still be eligible there if she passed Mayfield's additional assessment. Check the school's own result before deciding whether to name it.
Build a considered list of other schools now, within your home council's deadline. Our results and appeals guide explains the difference between this autumn's application and a possible appeal after offers are made.
The dates to keep
- 15 October 2026: Kent Test results sent.
- 2 November 2026: on-time Kent secondary school applications close. Your home council's deadline applies if you live outside Kent.
- 1 March 2027: National Offer Day. This is when you learn which school has offered a place, not when the Kent Test score is issued.
- 13 April 2027: deadline to lodge an appeal for a Kent school named on your application in time for it to be heard before September (Kent's 2027 admissions guide).
Submit the school application before the deadline and retain its confirmation. If your child is also considering Medway, remember that it is a separate test and that Medway's application deadline is 31 October 2026. Check every school you name against its own current admission rules.
