What to do after the 2027-entry Reading School test
- Reading School said it would tell parents by mid-October 2026 whether their son reached the eligible score. An eligible score does not guarantee a place, because more boys are likely to qualify than there are places.
- Name Reading School on your home council's Common Application Form by 11.59pm on 31 October 2026. The school says it cannot offer a place unless it is named on that form, even when a boy reaches the eligible score.
- Your council makes offers on 1 March 2027. A day applicant who reached the eligible score and is not offered a higher preference joins a waiting list automatically. The council runs it until 31 August 2027.
Subjects and stages
- English
- Mathematics
- Key Stage 2 curriculum subjects taught up to and including Year 5
- creative thinking
1. Entrance test
Four papers use multiple-choice, constrained-response and written answers. The school describes the content as thinking like an author, thinking like a problem solver, Key Stage 2 content up to Year 5, and creative thinking. The FSCE information says all papers except the Creativity Task are computer-marked and age-standardised.
2. Eligibility and allocation
The Governors' Admissions Committee determines the eligible score for the cohort; it is not a pre-set raw-mark pass score. Eligible candidates are considered under the published oversubscription criteria, subject to PAN and CAF application. An eligible score does not guarantee an offer.

Scoring and eligibility
Test data are age-standardised, and the school may set weightings annually. The 2027 eligible score is determined by the Governors' Admissions Committee using cohort performance, previous cohorts, oversubscription criteria and PAN; it is not a pre-defined pass mark. The school page states an eligible score does not guarantee a place. The exact numeric 2027 eligible score is not provided in the reviewed sources.
